1st Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry
He served with the 2nd Shropshires in the South African war and was in possession of the Queens and Kings Medals with several clasps. He had been in the Army for 18 years

Born 1877 in Kinnerley
Son of Henry and Mary Ellen of The Pikes, Ruyton XI Towns
Brother to Lillia, Theophilus, Arthur, Charles, Maud, Mary, Jane, Violet Beatrice, John (who also served)
His father was a sawyer and he was a timber haulier before joining the regular Army

He was Killed in Action during the battalion’s successful attack on the German lines at Hooge, on the ridge carrying the Menin road, east of Ypres on 9th August 1915 age 38
